Anthropologists and psychologists have found a few similar themes which prevail in most of our dreams, regardless of who we are, what we do or where we live. These universal dream themes transcend all generations and cultures.

Falling
Dreams about falling from great heights are very common. While there is a popular myth that if you hit the ground in your dream you will die in real life, it simply is not true. According to many popular dream interpretations, falling dreams are a sign that something in your life isn't going well. It might suggest that you need to rethink a choice or consider a new direction in some area of your life.

Dreaming of falling is very common in people who are having a major life problem with work, relationships, or elsewhere. It is a symbol of fear in real life - perhaps of failing at work or in your love life. Falling often expresses a need to let yourself go more and enjoy life more.

Losing Teeth
Dreams about losing teeth or teeth falling out can have multiple meanings. It might mean that you are worried about your attractiveness or appearance. It might also indicate that you are concerned about your ability to communicate or concerned that you might have said something embarrassing.

Experts view teeth as a symbol of power and confidence. This dream is supposedly a sign that something happened in the dreamer’s life that has caused him or her to lose confidence. Teeth are a bad omen in dreams, and represent a broken relationship. If your teeth fall out, you lose personal power and your ability to be assertive, decisive, and self-protective.

Being Naked In Public
Dreams of showing up to work or school naked represent vulnerability and anxiety, and are common to people who have accepted a promotion, gone off to a new job, or who are coming into public view.

Dreams of public nudity might indicate that you feel like a phony or that you are afraid of revealing your imperfections and shortcomings.

Taking a Test
Taking an exam your dreams are quite common, and reveal an underlying fear of failure. They also urge the dreamer to stay alert. Examinations are stressful experiences in which you are made to face up to your shortcomings. To dream of failing an exam, being late for one, or being unprepared shows that you feel unprepared for the challenges of waking life.

Being Chased
Dreams that feature being pursued by a known or unknown attacker can be particularly terrifying. Dream interpreters often suggest that such dreams mean that you are trying to avoid something in your daily life, and a wish to escape from your own fears or desires.

The key to understanding these dreams depends partly on the identity of the pursuer. Being chased by an animal might indicate that you are hiding from your own anger, passions, and other feelings. If your pursuer is a mysterious, unknown figure, it might represent a childhood experience or past trauma. If you are being chased by someone of the opposite sex, it may suggest you are afraid of love or haunted by a past relationship.

Death or Dying
Death dreams are quite common, and can be very alarming, whether you dream that you or a loved one dies. Dreaming of death is usually more symbolic however, and often indicates the ending of a particular habit, behavior, circumstance, etc. Dreaming about death can also be part of the grieving process if you recently experienced the passing of a loved one.

When you dream of death, dying or dead people, notice how you feel in your dream, as the death will usually represent the end of something personally or culturally, and signal your moving on to something new. It will be helpful to consider what the dead person represents to you to understand what part of yourself you fear losing, or what aspect of yourself or your culture may be coming to an end or preparing for a new beginning.

Cheating or Infidelity
Dreaming that your spouse or romantic partner is cheating on you with someone else can be incredibly distressing. In some cases, people even start to wonder if the dream might really be true. Does dreaming that your partner is unfaithful mean that it might happen? Or that it is already happening?

While in some cases such dreams might be the reflection of waking fears of such infidelity, many researchers agree that such dreams probably don't mean that your spouse is cheating or will cheat, but that you are testing the limits of your reality. Such dreams about infidelity usually point to your issues with trust, loyalty, and communication in a relationship. If you or your partner cheats in your dream, a common interpretation is that one of you isn't getting what you need from the relationship.

Flying
Flying or floating through the air is another common dream theme. These Dreams can be exciting and even liberating but they may also be quite frightening for persons who are afraid of heights.

Researchers suggest that dreams about flying often represent one of two very different scenarios. On the hand, they represent freedom and independence, but on the other, they can also indicate a deep desire to flee or escape from the realities of life. Because it often involves positive feelings of pleasure, flying may also depict sexuality - especially aspects of sexuality that express a freedom from social norms and restraints.
